The Courchevel Ski Resort is situated in the Three Valleys ski (les Trois Vallees) area of France and is made up of 4 resort areas. These are Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650 (aka Moriond), Courchevel 1550 and Le Praz (situated at 1350 metres). So finding ski lessons and ski instructors should pose no problem.

From Courchevel you can easily access the other 2 valleys (Meribel and Val Thorens, which make up the three valleys) via the integrated lift system.

Our Favourite Runs

Green: this has to be Jardin Alpin. You access the run via the Jardin Alpin bubble from 1850 and can practise your technique on the Golf learner area, before enjoying the scenery down to 1850. A lot of kids ski lessons take place here.

Blue: top of the pile here is Biollay which is a perfect piste for practising ski technique before heading off to steeper slopes after your ski or snowboard lesson.

Red: La Saulire is the landmark run for the Courchevel Ski Resort and is pisted every day, so get there early for a good run. If you’re looking for something out the way, then Marquety is a good option too and if pisted will stay in better condition for longer.

Black: coming in at the steepest run in resort, Combe des Pylons is fantastic when pisted. It’s not pisted every day, so check the piste schedule before giving it a shot.

Ski Hire

A much under-rated part of a ski holiday. Having comfortable feet and skis that have been properly serviced prior to reaching you will make a huge difference to your holiday enjoyment. It will also make the difference to your ski lesson, being able to think about technique and not sore feet.

We recommend:

Skis Direct – owned by Jim, who is a BASI qualified ski instructor and knows his onions when it comes to skis and boots and how they should fit. Delivered to you, while you are enjoying your first G&T. You can of course queue up, if you like that kind of thing.

Getting there and away.

Airports.

There are several airports within a 2 hour drive from Courchevel with several carriers servicing those airports.

Geneva Airport is situated in Switzerland just 2 hours from Courchevel. Easyjet among others fly there from various U.K. airports.

Lyon Airport;

Grenoble Airport; and

Chambery Airport are all in France and are around 1.25 to 1.45 hours from Courchevel.

Transfers.

Getting to and from the airports is relatively simple as there transfer companies offering both private and shared transfers.

Three Valley transfers. British Company running fully certified transfers to the 3 Valleys.

Snowbound Transfers

Alp transfers. British Company running fully certified transfers to the 3 Valleys.

Accommodation.

You are really spoiled for choice in Courchevel. You can literally spend as much as you like and could even be rubbing shoulders with Take That, The Beckams and Ian Botham…if you’re not careful!

Here are some of the great operators that we recommend.

Eating Out.

With more Michelin stars than you can shake a stick at, if you’re a foodie or a winey, then Coorsh is the place for you.

You could probably come for a season and not eat in the same restaurant twice. We tried, but lost count and also forgot who we were for one of the more challenging all you can eat deals.

Le Praz

The Bistro Du Praz, one of our favourites.

La Table De Mon Grand Pere, part of the Peupliers Hotel.

The Azimut, a Michelin star resto, with reasonably priced menus. Good wine selection too.

1650 (Moriond)

La Boulotte, all the abuse you can handle and a right good feed. Owner and part time chef Katie provides both. No Michelin star, but a nice glint from Katie’s gold fillings and sovvie rings.

La Sezena, isn’t so great for personal abuse, but they have a nice fusion style menu, which is a welcome change in the land of bacon, cheese and spuds.

Courchevel 1850

Make sure you’ve setup your out-of-office reply if you’re going to make a dent here.

We’ve just listed a couple here, as we were getting hungry.

The Chabichou, 2 Michelin stars and bags of style. Unlike most other places in 1850, the Family are very into the community and they will usually be found supporting local events.

The Chaboté, underneath the Chabichou is their Bistro restaurant. Really good and good value.

The Courcheneige Hotel, on the Belle Cote run down towards 1850 has a good value no-nonsense resto.
